Keti-Koti
As a Dutchman, I have always been very proud of my country. The things we have been able to contribute to the world, especially in the fields of art and science, I truly find remarkable.
But I am also very aware of the bad things we have done. One of these things was the transatlantic slave trade. This was the trade in slaves from Africa to America, carried out by Europeans.
The Netherlands was a big part of that.

Keti-Koti is an annual Surinamese holiday celebrating the abolition of slavery. The name comes from the Sranantongo and means Chains Broken.
